The Beauty of you: to Love a Dog

This is Honey when we were outside playing

I don’t know where you come from
But I remember what it felt like when we brought you home

The day is sweltering, So by me
in the AC
you sit. Loyal, protective, beautiful.

You bigger than all the other dogs in my life, being able to stand nearly as tall as me
And I am 5 foot 3.

Yet you’re smaller than most other German shepherds with a purebred pedigree

“Honey”, we call you. A note
to the deep amber color of your coat.

With hints of dark brown
to match your intense chocolate eyes
You make me as happy as you get
When we give you a new surprise

The pads of your paws are as soft
as your nose is wet
I love your kisses my favorite pet

As I sit here with you in our cool apartment
Safe from the heat and intense solar rays
I notice your long tail wagging intensely
You’re ready to play.
